The Union: Sierra College prepares to break ground on NCC expansion in May

All I can say is…FINALLY! After multitudes of problems with the state and construction estimate overruns,and hours and hours of meetings, we’re starting to turn some dirt! It’s been a long time coming — too long, in my opinion.

A classroom building, a building for two-dimensional arts and another facility for three-dimensional arts will be the first ones to be constructed, Chavez said.

"We are already doing site work up there, removing trees and preparing the ground," he said. "As soon as the site preparation is done (in May), within 60 days, we’ll see the foundation of the new buildings."

Two heroes in one family…

I know…two stories about our heroes in uniform in a row…but these are the men and women who risk it all to keep us safe.

In this story, two heroes in one family: a son taking the oath in the National Guard here at home; the other, a father administering that oath from Iraq.

A quick excerpt:

Dupont’s father, Lt. Col. Daniel Dupont, appeared via video teleconference from his post in Iraq to induct his son.

“Well, stand up, state your name and raise your right hand,” the elder Dupont told his boy.

Tears welled up as Seth Dupont repeated the oath; then he told his father he loved him.

“Congratulations, son,” his father said. “I’m proud of you, man. I love you, too. You made a good, strong decision.”

Heading out…to keep us safe

Heading out...to keep us safe

I’m flying back to California and was just walking through Atlanta’s airport when I noticed the second level. It was ringed with heroes…headed out to keep our country safe.

We owe them a lot.
